The Squaw Creek Golf Course is located in Truckee, California, and is a great location for golfing and vacations. It is perfectly situated in the bottom of the Squaw Valley, at about six thousand feet above sea level. Golfers go there from all across the country to enjoy championship grade golf on a large course with a par of 71.
This championship course covers six thousand, nine hundred and thirty one yards of prime golfing territory. As many seasoned course players will attest to, accuracy takes priority over distance on this course. The first part is a steady climb up the side of the mountain, with nine holes dotted through narrow greenways and trees. There is no room for mistakes in that section. The next set of nine holes ramble through cart paths, marshes and wetland with tallish grasses, along the base of the Squaw Valley. Again precision is required over distance.
The course does have a signature hole at the sixth, a basic par 3. This demanding feature is fairly challenging with distractions from the stunning mountain peaks in the distance and the need to get the ball going in the right direction at a water approach.
Though considered to be one of the top ten Californian courses and very challenging for most players, most players will admit that the experience alone is rewarding. Scenery and challenges rolled into one perfect package. There are four tees, including family ones being one hundred and fifty yards away from the greens.
Golfers can also partake in some game improvements. Lessons are available from golfing professionals for both individuals and groups. Prices start at about $70/hour for each instructor and then the cost of green fees.
Green fees start at $95 for resort guests and $110 for the public players, every Friday and Saturday. Thursday prices are $85 for guests and $95 for everyone else. Special twilight games are available seven days per week, with guests teeing off at 3pm and everyone else teeing off half an hour later. Fees are $55. For the more junior crowd, a once seasonal fee of $23 for twilight games and $45 for all others for ages seventeen and under. There are also late or evening fees that run from June to October - $50 guests, $95 everyone else, and twilight fees of $45.
Packages are available for families staying at the resort. The first nine holes are open for play and games begin between 5:30 and 6 pm daily, costing $40 per guest, but free for kids under age seventeen when an adult is present. Other amenities and services included are half-priced club rentals, green fees, golf carts and warming up sessions. Reservations are also taken for a similar package for individuals or groups of a maximum of twelve players. Group reservations apply to thirteen or less members. Reservations have to made by contacting the course office directly.
The course is renowned for its amenities and services. Generally these include the storage and parking of bags for day guests or players with a valet, practice sessions and area and equipment rentals. Club rentals start at a set for adults for $40 and $15 for juniors. Balls for practicing with cost $3/bucket. The practice area is open daily from 7am to 6pm.
