The Gorge is located just a short distance from Lake Tahoe and Reno. It is currently North America's biggest skiing resort for crosscountry skiers, ranking at '#1' in major skiing magazines. Some of the special features that make it so sought after include almost then thousand acres of skiing land, more than six hundred inches of snow annually, the biggest groomed x-country track and system on the continent (about three hundred and eight kilometers), 90 trails, 4 lifts, 2 nighttime lodges (Ice Lakes and Rainbow), 1 day lodge, biggest trail grooming machine fleet on the planet, snowmaking for 15km, 8 warming huts, 4 enroute trail cafes, 3 lodge to lodge trails, and a safe and breathable elevation of seven thousand feet. In fact, not only are the many trails used for cross country skiing, but many people also enjoy variations, including striding, diagonal striding, skating, telemarking and snow-shoeing.
The center also offers varied packages for vacationers, ranging from romantic couple to family fun. Packages are all-inclusive, allowing for free use of the trails, huts, lifts, rentals, lodgings, cafes and complementary meals in either the Rainbow's or Ice Lakes' restaurants, with a choice of traditional and modern Californian or rustic French cuisines.
