Lake Tahoe is home to the Granlibakken, a family run resort where families and individuals go to enjoy cross country skiing in an area renowned for its well maintained and challenging x-country trails. Though not everyone goes to the resort to ski, some prefer to crosscountry in other ways, whether snow boarding in its carefully designated areas or simply just settling down in its lodge in front of a warm fire. The area is filled with many other activities and the accommodation is like a home away from home.

The resort is nestled amongst the fir trees, attracting varied people for skiing and other activities. It is also very popular for corporate meetings and special family events. With seventy four acres of wooded valley floor, it makes for one of the most spectacular locations to enjoy x-country skiing in the state.

The snowboard and skiing hills are open from December to April, offering beginner to intermediate runs. Because its size is smaller than most resorts, enthusiasts can not only clamber out of their lodgings and get straight onto the trails, but avoid the large crowds that have become synonymous with the larger resorts.

Everything is carefully provided for by its Norwegian owners. There is a skiing school, warming hut, snack bar, rental store and a lift. However, these are usually only open from Fridays to Sundays, including all major holidays. The rental store and warming hut are open Monday to Sunday all year round. Lift prices range from $14 for kids for a full day pass and $24 for adults for full day passes.

Cross country skiers and snowshoers can also enjoy unparalleled Sierra Nevada terrain on miles of trails that are left ungroomed, but clearly marked. Equipment is in plentiful supply, so there is no concern about reserving rented items.
The snow play area is machine-groomed for general saucer play for children and their families. Though toboggans and inner tubes are not permitted, saucers can be rented.

Skiing and snowboarding lessons are available from the resort's ski school, with prices including lifts. In fact, the resort offers varied skiing packages, including one lesson, lift passes and equipment rentals.
