Sacramento, CA holds many destinations of interest in and around its confines. It was created from the wealth-seekers during the California Gold Rush, and grew to be the charming city it is now. Right on the American and Sacramento Rivers, it's full of history and a place you shouldn't miss in your travels.
One place you simply have to see is Sutter's Fort. This was the very first settlement in Sacramento. You should also make it a point to bring the whole family to wander the famous Old Sacramento Historic Area, with its cobblestone streets patrolled by horse-drawn carriages and the quaint wooden sidewalks. You should also stop by to view the snow leopards, red pandas and jaguars at the Sacramento Zoo.
There are plenty of places to stay for the night in Sacramento. There are, of course, a wide range of motels and hotels. All around the city there are options of either camping grounds or RV parks in natural settings.
To get to Sacramento from Lake Tahoe, take CA-89 to US-50 for a little over 98 miles that will take you right to the city. It's a mere 2 hours to get there and well worth it.
