Overview

Bear Valley boasts approximately 1,280 skiable acres with a 1,900’ vertical drop. The mountain receives an average of 359 inches of snow annually. Bear Valley Village is a scenic resort community with quaint lodges and a couple restaurants.

Location

Bear Valley Resort is located between Yosemite and Lake Tahoe on Highway 4. When visiting during winter, remember that Ebbetts Pass closes seasonally, so you’ll take 88 west to 99 south to the 4 east. The drive takes about 3.5 hours. There is a bus from Bear Valley Village.

Season/Hours

Lifts open 9am to 4pm on weekdays, and 8:30am to 4pm on weekends and peak days.

Mountain Services

Bear Valley offers equipment rentals, demos, kids clubs, a variety of lessons and clinics, several restaurants, and locker rentals.

Lodging and Services

While there are no lodges at the base of the resort, Bear Valley Village is just down the road and offers lodging and dining. For a large grocery store, many more lodging, dining, and shopping options, head down the hill to Arnold. The town of Murphy’s, rated as “One of the Top 10 Coolest Small Towns in America” by Frommers, is also close-by and has a quaint downtown area great for strolling during the summer months. The area boasts several wineries, golf courses, as well as great venues for concerts and plays.

Summer Activities

Bear Valley Village and its surrounding forests offer an abundance of outdoor recreation opportunities including hiking, fishing, kayaking, rock climbing and camping. Lake Alpine, just a short drive north on Highway 4 is great for hiking, boating, and fishing. Calaveras Big Tree State Park, located south west of Bear Valley Village, is home to a grove of giant sequoias and is a great place for camping, hiking, and fishing.
